Tips for Dressing for Television

Welcome to another weekly fashion post, where I share real fashion for real women. Each week, I highlight at least one outfit that I'm wearing right now, as well as provide ideas and inspiration to help you get dressed in the mornings. Life is hard, getting dressed shouldn't be. This week let's talk about what looks good on television.

Bright and Simple Outfit Idea for Television

Not that I am any expert, but I have been fortunate to appear on television a few times, and it's something I would be thrilled to do more often. But my latest adventure, had me in the studio audience rather than in front of the camera. . .but you never know, right?  Some long-time girlfriends and I headed up to see LIVE! With Kelly and Michael in NYC a few weeks ago.

So while I wouldn't be ON camera per say, I would be in the studio with the incredibly adorable and fashionable Kelly Ripa. As if that isn't fashion pressure enough, it had to be an outfit I could pack and then travel around New York in the same day. As always, I turned to some of my favorite basics, keeping in mind that a solid simple color on top, would work for TV.

Sweater - Ann Taylor (old) | Tank - Aventura Clothing | Skirt - Aventura Clothing | Bag - Kate Spade | Necklace - Tiffany | Boots - Bandolino | Earrings - Michael Kors

According to some friends that watched, we did make if briefly on camera in an audience pan. But more importantly, we got to spend a few minutes meeting Kelly and having our picture taken. Both she and Michael are a delight, and if you want something fun to do in New York, try and get tickets!

If you find yourself with the potential to be on TV, here are some basics to keep in mind:
  • Don't wear black or white.
  • Don't wear checks, stripes, herringbone or small intricate patterns.
  • Do try a pastel top.
  • Keep it simple and boring unless you are a fashion designer.
  • Don't wear dangly earrings.
  • Wear powder, even if you don't typically wear make-up.
  • Don't wear lip gloss or any makeup that is shiny.
Have you been on TV before? What did you wear?

By the way, Kelly Ripa totally complemented my friend Stephanie on her adorable red shirt!
