Inspired by Eileen Fisher

Welcome back to my weekly fashion post. If it's your first visit, welcome and I hope you like what you see. Each week I try to share real life outfits for real life women. I try not to bombard you with a barrage of things to buy, but rather inspire you to re-work the things you already own, to develop a sense of style that works for you.

This morning, I received my daily Neiman Marcus email, and it was full of Eileen Fisher. First of all, neither Neiman Marcus nor Eileen Fisher are in my day-to-day fashion budget, but that doesn't stop a girl from looking.

One picture this morning really struck a chord with me. . .this one:

If you aren't familiar with Eileen Fisher, she is a clothing designer and her company's purpose is to inspire simplicity, creativity and delight through connection and great design. Perhaps I am so smitten with her because that's what I try to accomplish here on the blog as well. But I digress. . .

There are a few things int he picture I don't care for . . .I have trouble with booties or ankle boots and tresses and skirts. Sometimes with a great sock it can look terrific, but generally, I think it cuts you off at the ankle, and that's bad for those of us that are already height-challenged. I am also not a total fan of that band at the bottom of the tunic. But I was inspired. . .

So I pulled out a grey drapey tunic that I have and my black maxi skirt. I added my faithful basic black tank to help smooth out any bumps and lumps. A pair of grey knee socks and my black booties finished off my look.

Just like that a new favorite fall outfit was born. From pieces I already had in my closet! A beautiful black pashmina or large scarf could add drama if the temperatures are cooler. You could also easily add booties that are a little more "dressed up" with a stiletto heel.

Headed for a date night or fun night out? How about some colored glass beaded jewelry to add a touch of elegance. Almost any type of bag works with this outfit, from a tailored black leather bag to an over the shoulder slouchy bag. You could also bring in a pop of color with a bright, jewel-toned bag.
