Easy Peep Sugar Cookies

There is just something about Peeps. I have always liked the bunnies the best. To me, they are a big symbol of spring and of Easter. These days, Peeps seem to be everywhere! Peeps are a product of the Just Born Candy Company, located in Bethlehem, PA. The original Peep Chicks hit the production line in the 1950s, but it wasn't until the 1980s that the cute little bunnies hit the line. Until 1995, Peeps were only produced in pink, yellow and white. In 1995, blue and lavender were introduced.

There are Peep stuffed animals, Peep hats, Peep slippers, even Peep Candles! (This post contains affiliate links-thanks for your support) So it's easy to see why I couldn't resist an adorable Peep Cookie Sheet at my local Michael's. Of course, I wanted my Peep Cookies to look just like the little sugar-coated marshmallow bunnies in the box, but my husband thought I might be getting a little obsessive.

In the end, I made things easy and used a simple sugar cookie recipe for the cookies. You can use your grandmother's recipe or the box of sugar cookie mix that you can buy from your local grocery store. Both work just as well. I haven't tried it with the roll of pre-made cookie dough, but I imagine it would work just fine.

Be sure to spray your cookie pan liberally, to ensure your cookies pop out in one piece after baking.

I decided to ice them with vanilla icing and then decorate them with sugar in my favorite Peep colors.

The most difficult part of these cookies is getting the cookie sheet. After that, it's pretty simple, and I even let my kids help ice them. I found that the easiest way to get the colored sugar coverage that I wanted, was to place the sugar in a small plate, and dip the iced cookies into the sugar, pressing lightly.

Sugar cookies not your favorite? There is no reason why this idea wouldn't work with your favorite chocolate cookie recipe just as well.

Are you a Peep fan? Bunnies or Chicks?
