A Great Fall Dress

Welcome back for another weekly fashion post. Getting dressed can be hard, especially for moms, and even more so for women over 40 who still want to look stylish and feel great. Each week, I try to share with you at least one outfit idea that may inspire you. I try to throw in a healthy does of fashion and style tips along the way too.

This week, I'm sharing a great new dress that Aventura Clothing sent to me as part of my ambassadorship. This dress is called the Leighton Dress and comes in Black or this Merlot color. I seem to be a little obsessed with a deep wine color this fall, which is a carry-over from last fall. It's flattering to many skin tones and hair colors as well.

I'm going to be a little frank here . . . I think this dress looks better on me in person (where it moves), than in pictures. In a still shot, you can see how it hangs straight down from my chest, not always flattering in pictures. But in real life, the dress has a lot of movement and skims nicely over any lump and bumps (it's NOT clingy). This important part, is that this dress is flattering to a variety of figures . . .it would look terrific on someone taller, someone thinner, someone with broader shoulders, an apple, a pear . . .

I paired it with tights and a pair of tall black boots. You could easily wear it with heels, booties or even flats.

I also had a little fun with some accessories Aventura sent to me - like this little black cloche that I am IN LOVE with. I feel so "Nancy Drew" when I have it on. And hats are big this fall.

A Black Cloche makes a great accessory

I also wore it with the Ciera Jacket, as it's difficult to find a coat sometimes that works with skirts and dresses.  It has a quilted nylon front and back panels, combined with the comfort of knit panels on the sides. It falls a few inches from the bottom of the dress, and has a two-way zipper to make car-riding much easier!

Dress and Coat combo

This whole outfit takes my usual jeans and shirt up a few notches, without sacrificing comfort. That's important to me. I love to dress up, but if I'm going to be in an outfit all day, I need to be comfortable. You could pair a great scarf with this dress too, and it's the perfect weight to wear from now, well into April or even May.

Do you have a favorite fall dress you're wearing right now?
