Bridging the Gap Between Casual and Dressy

Welcome back to my weekly fashion post where I share what I'm wearing right now, but more importantly I share tips and inspiration for you to make the most out of the clothes hanging  in your closet right now. Got a specific question? Feel free to leave a comment or email me and we'll work on it together!

One big dressing issue that gets me every time, is creating a look that is dressier than casual, but not too dressy. Know what I mean? Yesterday, our oldest graduated from 8th grade. The ceremony was in the Middle School Gym and the temperatures were above 90 degrees. Less than ideal fashion conditions. Many women were wearing pretty dresses with flat sandals, which was a perfect look for the day. I don't currently have a warm-weather dress, I find them difficult to fit with a larger chest. (but I keep looking!)

I got an idea in my head (as SO often happens) and I ran to my go to store, Ann Taylor. I had a pair of cute black ankle pants with tiny white polka dots, and thought a white eyelet top would look perfect.

Fashion tips and ideas for when the occassion is casual, but dressy.

Top - Ann Taylor (new & comes in a pretty chambray blue too)
Tank - Bienne Tank from Adventura Clothing
Pants - Ann Taylor (from fall)
Shoes - old from DSW
Bag - Kate Spade
Necklace - Tiffany
Bracelets - Alex and Ani and Tiffany

So my outfit was really comfortable, not too warm and appropriate for the conditions. I added a pair of low heels to keep the look a little dressy Overall I was happy with my choices, but I'm still looking for a great summer dress! Some other ways you can "dress up" a casual outfit are to add fancier jewelry, higher heels or a fancy bag. To make a dressy outfit more casual? simply reverse those accessories. As we talk about so many times, the key is great foundation pieces, and then the rest is just fun!

What's your favorite casual-dressy look?
