menu plan Monday. . .

so for a while now, i have been planning my menu for the upcoming week on Sunday night.  It keeps me in budget, reduces our waste of uneaten foods, and makes me feel more in-control come dinner time.  So as I sit and watch Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters, I pull out the weekly circular, my recipe apps and a list.

I have an electronic Grocery List in Word, arranged by category/section and I highlight the items we need for that week.  I use the Go MOM! Menu Minder worksheet to plot out my dinners for the upcoming week.

This week, here's what's cooking:

Monday - BBQ Chicken, Corn on the cob and mashed potatoes
Tuesday - Grilled Flank Steak, Zucchini, pasta side
Wednesday  Ham, Applesauce and a Veggie
Thursday - Ravioli, Salad and Garlic Bread
Friday - Pizza Night
Saturday - usually un-scheduled
Sunday - (newly formed Burger Night)

Do you plan your menus? What are your favorite resources?

catch you soon -

  2. Hillary,
What do you mean by your menu apps?
I do planning but I am not organized about a list of recipes to pull from when I'm not in a creative mood or into a particular cookbook.

I plan my week's meals but not for specific nights so I can bend a bit to whim. I'm a moody cook often in the mood or not in the mood for certain things. This week is all brand new recipes because I got a new cookbook on Saturday.

Ravioli with Pink Pesto Cream (Sunday)
    Leftover Pasta with Chicken (tonight)

Chicken & Leek Stroganoff (Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution p34)

Broccoli & Pesto Tagliatelle (Food Revolution p46)

Beef & Onion Pie (Food Revolution p117)
