How-To: Create a Thankful Album

Easy instructions for creating your own family Thankful Album

Do you take pictures at Thanksgiving? Do you long to go around the Thanksgiving table and ask each person what they are thankful for? I have the perfect project to put those two things together for a wonderful keepsake you can add to year after year!

This is an easy project, and if you are a crafty person, you probably have most of the pieces laying around in your craft stash! If you are not crafty - this is easy and only requires a few inexpensive supplies to complete.

What You Will Need:
  • Photo Album
  • White Cardstock
  • Pen
  • Embellishments for the Cover (optional)
  • Color Printer

What To Do:

I selected a fall-colored inexpensive photo album from Target.  To it, I added a tag and some silk fall leaves from a craft store.  I use Glue-Dots for 3-dimensial embellishments.

Cathy had printable templates (a title page, tag and journaling cards) on her website, so I downloaded them, printed them onto cardstock and trimmed them to size. If you are handy with photoshop, you can make your own.

To make this project work, I bring the album to Thanksgiving dinner and set it up on a sideboard or with the appetizers.  I put the journaling cards into an altered tin with some pens.  Then I try to take a picture of each person. If people are still hesitant, I put the album and cards on the dessert table.

After Thanksgiving, print your pictures and slide them into the album on the facing page to that person's Thoughtful Thought.

It makes a nice alternative to the somewhat awkward, "let's go around the table and say something we're thankful for".  Also, depending on the size of your Thanksgiving gathering, you can use the album multiple years, and have a wonderful collection of memories.
