How To : Pack For a Family Trip

Packing Spreadsheet

In preparation for any trip, I put together packing spreadsheet. . .one card per family member, arranged by day, then split into am and pm.  I also add a column at the end for x-tras (bathing suits, water shoes, etc.)

I plan outfits for each person on the front grid of the card.  I can flip the card over and list all the other things I need - medications, personal products, etc.

Then I pack according to the cards.  The KEY here is to take the cards with me. . .then use them to make sure we didn't leave anything behind.

I'm planning to punch a hole in the top corner and keep them together with a jump ring.

If I feel REALLY inspired tonight - I'll do them in each family member's color (me-pink, John-dark blue, Ryan-green and Owen-light blue)

Tomorrow, I'm putting together bags for the car ride.

What are some of your favorite packing tips?

catch you soon -

  1. This is awesome!! I am just starting to think about packing for our week at the beach and have stalled on a list. I love this type of checklist. I am notorius for forgetting one or two things. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love this! There's only 2 of us to pack for, but it we are going away for longer than a night, packing is my biggest headache! I'm definitely taking this idea!

  3. doing something like this REALLY makes me bring less . . .it helps me to think in terms of "outfits" rather than just clothes. . .

Let me know if it works for you ladies!
